Search everything at once

Whether you're wondering "Where was that feature?" or "Where did I write that?", start with this magnifying glass. Even if you only half remember a feature's name, typing something close will bring it up.

What is it?

From the magnifying glass at the very top of the Home screen, you can search the app's features, how-to guides (help), and your shared records (pages, chats, memories and events).

Above the search box are the buttons "Features & help," "Pages," "Chats," "Memories" and "Events." Choose where to look, then type your words. "Features & help" is selected at first.

How to use it

  • Tap the magnifying glass at the top right of the Home screen (just left of the store icon). The magnifying glass on the "Top" heading opens the same screen.
  • To find a feature: Type a feature's name, like "Reminders," and that feature appears. Tap it to open that screen directly.
  • To learn how to use something: Type your words the same way, and help articles appear below the features. Tap one to read it.
  • When you haven't typed anything, you'll see Recently viewed and All features. If you can't remember the name of the feature you want, look for it here. Each feature comes with a description of what it does.
  • To search your shared records: Tap one of the "Pages," "Chats," "Memories" or "Events" buttons above the search box. You stay on the same screen, and the search switches to that place (the selected button turns black). Whatever you typed stays in the box. When you choose a button, the screen shows what you can search there.
  • Example: To find "ramen" in your memories, type "ramen" → tap "Memories" (you can also tap the button first and then type).
  • To search somewhere else too, just tap another button, like "Chats," to switch. There's no need to type your words again.
  • To go back to searching features and help, tap "Features & help" at the far left.
  • If nothing turns up in features and help, the buttons "Search pages," "Search chats," "Search memories" and "Search events" appear in the middle of the screen. Tap one to search that place with the same words (the same as tapping the buttons at the top).
  • Results show the text around each match, with your search words highlighted in color, so you can see why each one was found.
  • Here's what each place searches:
  • Pages: Page titles and descriptions, plus memo text, attachment names, data page contents, trip plan contents, and even tasks in lists. Pages are listed as they are, while data page items and list tasks are grouped under a heading with the page or list name. Tap a heading to open that page or list. Note that passwords in data pages can't be searched by their contents (they're found only by the item name).
  • Chats: The text of chat messages (chat names are found under "Pages").
  • Memories: Memory titles and text, and the names of linked places.
  • Events: Event names and notes, and place names. Past events are included too.
